Your Perking Isn't Working...

There’s a new dance craze sweeping the nation.

Only kidding. But seriously, are we still throwing money at problems like retention, engagement and performance? 2016 was a year of enlightenment. We learnt a lot. We found out that Millennials are really hard to manage and engage and that (for the first time), they have overtaken Gen X to account for the largest percentage of today’s workforce. So what exactly do we know?

All I want for Christmas…

...Apart from an Amazon Echo, the entire Charlotte Tilbury catalogue and general merriment, is a better 2017. Whilst fully appreciating that there will be some for whom 2016 was pretty good, I think that next year can and will be less dramatic, more content and if the predictions are correct, evermore people-focused.
Whilst the war for talent continues across all sectors, companies are tuning into the impact of the experiences they are giving their employees. More importantly, they are beginning to understand the direct correlation of this on future hires.

Failure is not an option

We all love an underdog. It’s in our nature. Most of us possess an innate desire to help those who struggle and support the weak. But what happens when the ‘weak’ are the current and future leaders of your business? What if the success and potential of your company is dependent on individuals who are just unable to get the best out of their people?

Before getting too panicked, don't worry. They are still prepared to make sacrifices for their careers but (and this is the important bit) not to the detriment of their health. And before we all balk at their naivety, perhaps we should give them some credit? Maybe there's some method to their madness in thinking that the world of work should revolve around them?

Leading Millennials

Have you noticed what is happening at your workplace? Have a little look around you now? Are a lot of your colleagues looking a lot younger than you? Does it seem that your workplace is full of ‘bright young things’ who see the world differently from you? That’s because your workplace is increasingly a place dominated by 20- and 30-somethings who may indeed see the world quite differently from the way you do. What has started inevitably as a trickle is about to become a torrent and with this new tide of Millennials (born c.1980-2000) arriving into the workplace, will come a scouring effect on organisations. It’s about time.
