What is your career background?
I have spent the last 13 years working in Digital Recruitment. In my first company, I started as a Trainee Consultant and over the course of 12 years, worked up to a Divisional Head role. I was fortunate enough to receive amazing training on the power of coaching to increase team effectiveness and was mentored throughout my career by inspirational leaders.
How did you first learn about Open Blend?
After leaving my last role, I attended a Women in Digital Leadership event, joint hosted by Propel and Ada’s List. There were 5 women on the panel, all impressive in their own right but when I heard Anna speak, I was inspired. Keen to learn more, I visited the website and contacted her on LinkedIn and it went from there.
What made you choose to work for Open Blend?
I wanted to work for a company that was progressive, ambitious and knew how to get the best out of me. By the very nature of Open Blend, it met all of those requirements. It was really important to me that I could be driven and have a career and bring my ‘whole-self’ to work. I truly love the product and in the short time I have been speaking to people, so does everyone else. Employee engagement and wellbeing is a hot topic at the moment, it will continue to rise as a key area of investment as companies realise the importance of understanding their talent.
What is your role in Open Blend?
My official title is Head of Sales but really, my responsibility is to educate potential clients that Open Blend not only exists, but that it is effective in all businesses. I am lucky to have experienced the effectiveness of coaching first-hand, but many Leaders are either unfamiliar or prefer a more conventional, dated, ‘telling’ approach. I am passionate about Leaders engaging with their talent, so to be able to introduce an intuitive piece of software that facilitates that conversation is both exciting and a privilege.
Personally, what makes you a happy and engaged employee?
Working to live, not living to work. All too often, the mantra is that to be truly successful, you need to live and breathe your work. Many of us, including me, have fallen into that way of thinking and for me, it’s outdated and largely unproductive. I am at my most happy and engaged when the things that are important to me are being considered by both me, and my employer.
What do you find most disengaging in a work environment?
I find it hard when I am being dictated to. I work best in a collaborative environment where people are listened to.
Tell us about your blend... What element choices were a no-brainer?
I found the first 6 elements really easy to choose. The elements relating to my family and my leader were no brainers which lends some personal support for research that proves a blend is far more productive and innovative than a standard work-life balance. For me, my job is important, but so is my family and I need to be able to be successful or feel fulfilled in both to be at my best.
What makes you most excited about Open Blend?
It’s all about employee engagement. I love that our timing is impeccable and that businesses are crying out for something that simplifies and enables these vital conversations between leaders and talent. In terms of HR Tech, we run against the flow, increasing the need to talk rather than substituting through machines and apps. In the not too distant future, Gen Z will be entering our workplaces and businesses will need to adapt to meet many different drivers and expectations amongst their workforce. We provide that solution and that’s exciting.
